5 years ago Alexs mother and father died in a plane crash. And too this day no one knows what caused the crash. All they know is that in all the twisted metal and shattered glass the only thing that made this crash different was that the engines where intact
except for the scratch marks that look like claw marks. The crash investigators just passed it off as metal flying off the tail and hitting the engines. But Alex knew there was more, and she knew weather or not she wanted to know, she was going to find out.
Alex had no friends. She was 15. And she lived with here foster parents, who where always mistreating her and getting her to do all the work around the house. Its to build character. They always said. Here life was pretty much like a fairy tail. She was Cinderella and her foster family was like the step sisters. Well, step sister and brother. The house was right on the edge of a huge forest. And her High school was 20 miles away. She was bullied around a lot by the other kids. Here one way to get away from it all was to read. She read science fiction books, horror storeys. And the occasional love story. But the one type of book she read the most where fantasy books, the ones where the prince saves the princes from the ferocious fire breathing dragon. She would read the entire book and wonder if a prince would come and save her. Little did she know, a prince was already coming to save her, although the prince is not one she would expect.
One afternoon when Alex was walking home from school she cut thru the forest. She didnt want to be late like she was yesterday; she would definitely regret it this time. While she was walking along the path she heard a frightened squeak, like a mouse but a little louder. She was about to continue on her way when she heard it again. Not being able to stand the thought of leaving an injured animal around she fallowed the squeak. Alex weaved here way thru a few trees and found the one thing she had not expected. A red baby dragon, probably about two feet long. Its front left paw was tangled in some fishing line and the hook was caught right thru its paw. It looked at Alex with its cute big red eyes, a fright full look on its face that could only resemble a frightened puppy look.
Before Alex could think twice she went over to help it. Its ok. Im here to help you. Youll be free soon she whispered to it as she untangled it and gently removed the hook. Alex took the ribbon she used to tie her hair back and made a small bandage to stop the bleeding on its paw. The dragon looked at her then at the bandage then at her again with a curious look on its face. It started to walk over to her and when it stepped on its hurt paw it wailed in pain. Not loud to make you cover your ears but the sadness from the cry would even make her step parents cry a bit. Alex went over to comfort it. She no longer cared if her step parents noticed she was late, all she cared about was to help this little dragon.
After about twenty minutes, when she was sure the dragon would be ok she started home. After a few more minutes she heard a twig snap. Alex knew someone was following her. She turned around and looked down and there was the dragon. With a smile only a baby dragon can give. Alex picked up the dragon and held it in her arms. You cant follow me home. What would your parents think? If your parents are like the dragons in fairy tails they wont be happy with me if I took you home. Alex said to the small dragon. Noticing that it didnt understand, Alex carried the dragon over to a tree where it could get down but not soon enough to follow her. When she started to walk away she heard the dragons terrible saddening cry. Alex turned around and saw that the dragon had slipped. It had its tail coiled around one of the branches, its hind claws were in the trunk of the tree. And its front paws, clawing at the air trying to get to the ground and back to Alex.
She waited for the mother to hear her babies cry. She waited to hear the angry roar of the father and mother to come. She waited for them to come and tear her apart for hanging there baby in a tree. She waited for a sound that never came. Still the only thing she heard was the sad cry of the baby dragon in the tree, hanging for dear life. Alex couldnt stand leaving it. She decided she would risk angry dragons and take the small dragon home. Alex walked over to the hanging dragon and reached up to help it down. The dragon seemed to understand what she was doing and stopped thrashing around. As soon as Alex had hold of the dragon it uncoiled its tail and took its claws out of the tree. After about ten minutes the dragon had fallen asleep in Alexs arms. Where will I keep it? she thought to herself. Then she remembered the old abandoned barn only five minutes from her house. That should be enough to keep a baby dragon till I find a better spot. It was the perfect spot, for a baby dragon. But what Alex didnt know was that dragons grow very fast. So fast, that in three days the dragons head was just over her head.
Alex wasnt worried about feeding it thou. Ever since she brought the dragon to the barn there havent been any rats around and she hasnt seen as much deer around lately either. She was worried about the shortage of wildlife might cause there to be no more deer around but she shrugged it off and said to herself you cant yell at a dragon for being a dragon. And she still wasnt sure if it was a he or a she. That was until one morning she heard a voice from the barn. When she heard the voice she thought how is she going to explain a five foot tall dragon in the barn. It wasnt a normal voice. It was a mix of sweet majestic prince voice and a low growl. Alex was surprised to see the dragons head pop out of the front barn door and to find the voice was his voice. Alex! screamed the dragon in excitement. He ran over to Alex.
